Newsletter this week is short in sweet due to a very busy week with conferences and Halloween!

Writer’s Workshop

This week the writer’s looked at mentor texts and tried to decide which of their stories will their audience enjoy the most! Next week they will each choose a piece of writing to revise, edit and fancy up! We would love for you to attend our Author’s Celebration and hear all of the wonderful writing that has been happening in 2nd grade! Author’s Celebration will take place on Wednesday, November 6 from 3:00-3:45! Please come join us! It is such a special day for the writers, it would be amazing if they dressed up for their special day (button down shirt, dress, tie, etc.) Whatever makes them feel really special! I will talk to them more about it next week but wanted to share with you in advance!

Halloween

We had a ton of fun reading Halloween books, looking at story structure and even writing our very own Spooky Stories on Halloween. The mathematicians participated in math stations to reinforce place value (to the hundreds), odd and even numbers and fact fluency.

Earlier in the week, we went down to visit our Kindergarten buddies and we taught them how to sort and graph! It has been really fun getting to know our kindergarten buddies! The 2nd graders have enjoyed getting to be leaders and role models when we are all together!

Thank you to everyone who sent supplies, sent their child with a costume and those of you who were able to help out at the Halloween Party. The party was a blast! We participated in the parade, played games, decorated cookies, tried to figure out what was in some spooky mystery boxes and had a dance party!

Book It!

I have coupon for every child to receive a certificate to get a free pizza at Pizza Hut each month! When your child fills in a completed reading log, I will give them the certificate! I only have enough for every child to get one more month (beginning with the month of November). Once they have both sides of their reading log filled out, they can turn it in to me and I will send their certificate home!

Wants and Needs for the Classroom

I love to have a class supply of snacks in case anyone forgets snacks! If your child ever forgets a snack and I give them one, please remember to send in a “replenishment snack.” Thanks to those of you have sent in some extra snacks!

I am also looking for donations for our Author’s Celebration! We will need 5 packs of Oreos, cocktails cups, and 2 large bottles of apple juice! Please let me know if you are able to send in any of the items! We will be needing them by Wednesday! Thanks!

Old Magazines

Next week we will start diving deeper into non fiction! If you or anyone you know might have any old magazines to donate (Good Housekeeping, National Geographic etc) please send them into me on Monday! We will be cutting them up to create text feature posters
