Math Workshop

Mathematicians were so excited to learn about the world of measurement. Students practiced measuring the nearest inch or centimeter. The kids had a ton of fun practicing their new skills. During Reader’s Workshop the kids noticed that cm. and in. were in tons of our nonfiction books and we can better understand the size of something! The students also learned how to use measuring tape. Students collaborated and worked together to measure big lines on the rug!

Next week I will be giving the students their end of quarter 4 assessment and a Mid Year Assessment. Both of these tests will help me determine next steps for the mathematicians as well as monitor how closely they are to mastering the end of the year standard.

Literacy

The students have been busy with the world of nonfiction! This week the readers were put in small collaborative research groups to try to “Talk the Talk” that experts speak. Check in with your child to see what animal they are becoming an expert on! Readers are learning to put all the pieces together and read many books on one topic to become an expert!

The Writers have been working hard on the goals that they created a few weeks ago. They are learning to create interesting “leads” to try to hook the reader from the very beginning. We do this by: asking a question!” For example Do you like animals? If you answered yes, this is the book for you!

This week the students learned about communication and how to effectively communicate through verbal and non verbal. We learned that communication is ’t just the act of talking!

Winter Party

We will have a winter celebration on Thursday, December 19 @ 10:30. Please come at 10:00 if you would like to help decorate and get items ready for the party!
